Onward and Upward

We are on a move here at BME PE. Our K-2 students just wrapped up Parachute and of course it's one of their favorite units in the year.

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th students are finishing up their basketball unit. It's been a great couple of months as we are learning new skills.

First Days of 2016 School year!

We are off to a great start! Thanks so much to everyone to came out to Open House a few weeks ago! We welcomed over 150 students to the gym and gave out 150 bouncy balls! WOW! Students enjoyed stations that Mrs. Davis set up.

A few new things this year:
1-Fitness Lab: Our fitness lab has been a work in progress. It is now READY for students and teachers. I'll be adding pictures soon! This will be used every day for Kindergarten students and the stations will be rotating every two weeks...at least that's MY GOAL!

2-KICKS FOR BME: Something new this year for our students who forget to wear their tennis shoes. I have several parents and community members that have donated tennis shoes. YAY! Students who forget will be given the opportunity to change into shoes from the boxes. If they refuse, they will then receive a note in my grade book.

3- GOLDEN SHOE: This isn't new...but the children LOVE it! When everyone in a class wears their tennis shoes that class will receive a sticker. The best K-2 class and the best 3-5 class will be awarded the GOLDEN SHOE! It's such a BIG DEAL to my students and I LOVE how they work hard as a team to try to earn it.

Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns: Or if you want to subscribe to my monthly newsletter just send me a quick email asking to be added. I had over 100 parents sign up on Open House night. WOWZERS! My email is megan.davis@cravenk12.org

Here are a few updated pictures!

NOTHING...I meant NOTHING gets this gal's blood pumping like new equipment! HA! This is my haul after a summer visit to 5 and Below. I was so pumped!

Here is my new t-shirt I made this year! Our theme is Superhero's at BME this year and I was needing a new shirt to wear with my jeans on Fridays. It turned out SUPER CUTE.

I'll be adding more pictures later this week.

Why PE is more than sports! And why I do what I do.

For the past few weeks our students have been learning to jump rope. During this unit we have Jump Rope Clubs- students can jump and earn bookmarks based on the number of jumps they are able to do in a row. See the picture below. The Hot Dog Club is for students once they finish 400.
Well through the unit students can get frustrated and they have to push thru all the adversity that comes with learning something new. This becomes interesting especially for our more athletic students.

One of my 1st graders Treshaun was in that exact boat. Today I saw him come in and get excited about earning bookmarks only to find out that he wasn't as good as he thought he was. We talked about it and he told me 'Mrs Davis I'm not giving up!' I praised him and encouraged him to continue to do his best. I gave him some pointers after watching him jump and went on to to other students. When I came back around he told me he was ready! He struggled but after a few tries he was able to get 10 jumps and his first bookmark.

He was so amazingly proud of himself and I wish I could have captured the emotion in his smile as he realized he had done it!
You see, it's more than sports in PE! It's more than kids being physically active for their required 30 minutes each week. It's so much more than any of that. Man, it's so MUCH MORE!  It's life lessons. It's learning to overcome what they thought they were not able to do. Treshaun learned today that if he worked hard and put forth the effort he would be able to accomplish his goal- and that's why I do what I do EVERYDAY! So worth all of the planning, frustrations and sacrifices put in every day.

Balance, Stunts and Tumbling OH MY!

I'm This past week we ventured into a quick balancing, stunts and tumbling- the children did great! Here are a few pictures!
Next week we are off to Jumping and Landing. I share with the children that I wish someone had taught me how to land safely! My poor knees would appreciate it! Have a great weekend!

First Tee Golf

We have been busy this school year... so busy it's been hard to find time to post. I'm making it my New Year's resolution to do a better job!

Our Fall units have been rolling along and we are well into Winter. Here are a few pictures below from The First Tee golf unit. Our students enjoyed an EXTREME Golf Course that Mr. C and I set up for the students. THEY LOVED IT!

As we begin 2016 we off with our Gymnastics unit. Next we will be doing Fitness Challenges, and Jump Rope Skills. Oh yes...those lovely Jump Rope Bookmarks.
