Loving Go Noodle

We tried something new this week as our ASAP. Go Noodle! Wow! Our students LOVED it! So much fun. It's an online website that provides videos that includes Zumba, dance and track activities. Students had a blast! Look below to check it out.

FYI- I have a few videos but I am working on getting them loaded! Check back soon!

EVERYONE's FAVORITE!!!

Many of us remember our own elementary school days. From our days in elementary some of everyone's favorite days are while in PE. I don't have the scientific data to back it up, BUT I do strongly believe that if I took a poll of the most memorable Elementary PE activities Parachute would be at the top! Everyone LOVES our parachute lessons. And I mean everyone! They love moving them up and down, they love playing cat and mouse. They love 'making popcorn.' The list goes on and on and on and on. This week we started everyone's favorite, out parachute unit. For the next three weeks we will be doing LOTS of parachute games and activities. Here are a few pictures from the week!

Elementary PE teacher meeting today at BME

Today all of the elementary PE teachers met at BME. It was great to see everyone. Some of the topics discussed were the ASW evaluation process for all PE teachers in NC. We had great discussion on what it all means and where we go from here. We also discussed how to use twitter for professional growth, promotion of physical education and our schools. Next, we talked about adapted PE. Paul Kruer and I will be visiting different schools and giving support in APE.
Keith Cannon our fearless leader talked a little bit about poverty and how it affects students' learning. Very interesting research!! To wrap up the day we heard from the First Tee program. We will be starting this soon at BME for all 5th grade students. Be on the look out for more coming!

Some of our wonderful Elementary PE teachers! Did I mentioned that our AC was broken today? Shew! What's great is that no one really complained as Physival Educators we have learned to roll with the punches over the year!

There is Mr.C taking it all in!

Moving along

This week our 3rd-5th grade students continued with the 5 components of Physical Fitness. Muscular strength and muscular endurance were the focus.
Our k-2 students learned about fitness as well. They learned about flexibility and why it is so important.
Below are a few pictures from the week, enjoy!

5 Components of Physical Fitness

This week we started learning out Physical Fitness and what it means to be physically fit. I want all students at BME to get plenty of exercise each and every day but I also realize that teaching the why and how to be physically fit is even more important.
When I first graduated college I thought my job as a physical educator was to teach them sports skills and make sure they go hard for the 45 minutes I have them each week with little to no break.
Over time I have come to grow as a professional and realize that the education they get while in PE, is just as important. I would even go as far to say that it is more important! I tell our students all the time 'Mrs. Davis doesn't want you to exercise just this year...I want you to exercise for the rest of your life!' Man that is POWERFUL! As a Physival educator I want my students to love physical activity and to have the tools and knowledge as to why they should be physically active.
So..this week we began with Aerobic Capacity. We learned that it's our heart and lungs working together. Students participated in the PACER test from Fitness Gram. It was tied into their science curriculum by concentrating on what 'system' they are in. We hope that they will make the connections in a few months. Next week we are onto Muscular Strength and muscular Endurance.
Here is to months ahead of our students at BME wanting to be physically fit and leaning how that happens.

QR codes

This week we are using QR codes to gather data from our students. It is going great! The students are excited to be using the ipad minis. I developed QR codes based on google forms, videos and activities. Students have learned to use the QR app and scan the codes. They have to then follow the instructions. Here are a few pictures from this week. They have really gotten into it and Mr. C and I have been collecting important data. I'm sure we will develop these as time goes on...but you have to start somewhere!
