What a week! Many things to be thankful for!

Our 2nd graders are learning how to jump and land safely. While it doesn't sound exciting they LOVE it! They also got a lot of aerobic activity this week participating in the Locomotor grab bag activity. They had to read specific ideas and directions and work together as a team to participate correctly. I always laugh when people walk in our gym not knowing what we are doing because many times it looks very SCARY! They love the collaboration that comes with games like this. Take a look below for some great students and how they work together.

This week our 3-5 students have learned different skills while learning to jump rope. They have also started Jump Rob Clubs. They absolutely love this unit and students are able to work independently while working on a specific goals. There are several levels at which students are able to earn a "bookmark." Our bookmarks are in the different levels seen in the picture below. Everyone has to start at 10 and work there way up. What is great is that they have to practice in order to be able to be checked off for the different levels, therefore working on their Aerobic Capacity...funny how that works.

It is so exciting to see students begin the week not believing in themselves and then as the weeks progress they are able to jump and earn different bookmarks. Enjoy the pictures and story below.

This is William and he is 4th grade student. William is extremely athletic and typically excels in majority of the sports, games and activities that we do week in and week out. However, jump roping skills are not his favorite because he doesn't think 1-that he is very good at it or 2-because it doesn't come naturally or easy to him. He was not a happy PE student this week when he found out our next unit was Jump Rope. What I love is that at the beginning of the week he was very somber and tried to hide from me when checking other students off on Jump Rope Clubs. I gave him lots of encouragement and told him to do his best. I told him that he would have to practice during PE and during recess and at home. WELL...today he came to PE with a new attitude. In fact, he was able to get two bookmarks and even HE was surprised. I know that I am not a classroom teacher but so many times I see students who do not believe they can do something and often struggle...I was literally in tears today as I watched William try his best and PERSEVERE and earn TWO BOOKMARKS! He was so proud of himself and knew the tears in my eyes were happy tears.WAY TO GO WILLIAM!

Enjoy the rest of this week's pictures.

The First of Many- The First Tee

This week our 5th grade students had the great honor of participating in The First Tee. On Thursday and Friday morning we loaded up the bus with excited 5th graders and headed over to Carolina Colours golf course. We were greeted by Coach George and the other fantastic coaches. These men give up their time to plant tiny seeds of enthusiasm for the sport of golf. They were not only knowledgable but extremely patient with our students. We were even more fortunate to have our newly adopted Navy squadron send a few of their men to help out as well.
Enjoy the pictures below.
Warm ups

Coach George explaining the different parts of the golf course.

Students practicing their putting skills. At this station the goal was to putt three times and get a ball in each of the three sections.

At this station our students got to use irons to practice their swing in full force. For majority of our students it was the first time ever really hitting a golf ball for long distance.

Thursday was a beautiful day! Our students Friday had a bitter cold day and majority of the stations had to be moved inside. We look forward to our next trip in the Spring.

A BIG BIG thank you to Carolina Coloours for allowing our students from Brinson to experience time at their briar idyl golf course. And thank you to all of the men who volunteered their time over the two days.

What a great team!

This week is not an easy week for PE. Our book fair was this week and it was in our gym. That meant that Mr.C and I were camping outside all week. Well, we made it through cold mornings and blustering wind. BUT what made it manageable was our 4th and 5th grade teams. I mean how many other teachers feel sorry enough for Ya to bring you this on a cold morning.
And when 4th grade found out they were being shown up by 5th grade they stepped up their game with my favs.
You gotta love some Michelle Owens and Corey Kick!!!
This week Mr. C had a few apts so I got to spend my Friday with these two! A great PE sub and her daughter who decided to come home early from college. Missy and Kiera always make my day entertaining!!

So we SURVIVED book fair week once again! Next week we have a short week and we are playing PE Games that ROCK!
